ICSI/PICSI: how is the procedure going
The protocols of procedures differ in purpose, but they pursue one goal – the possibility of successful IVF. The methodology includes:
PICSI protocol
Primary procedure for the selection of high-quality, mature sperm with normal DNA. It is a high-quality test, the medium based on hyaluronic acid or a special stick impregnated with a hyaluronic solution is placed in a Petri dish. Normal spermatozoa (both externally morphologically and with a full-fledged chromosome set) actively interact with hyaluronic acid. Damaged, non-viable sermatozoa remain unused.
The picsi method significantly increases the chances of IVF success, reducing the risks of spontaneous mutations, chromosomal aberrations and intrauterine fetal death.
ICSI protocol
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI, icsi) is the “gold standard” of IVF. After the introduction of the protocol into IVF programs, the success of the protocols increased significantly, which led to the expansion of the possibilities of reproductive medicine and the popularization of the method.
The icsi method helps to achieve pregnancy if a woman has antisperm antibodies, low sperm motility, a high percentage of abnormal and damaged sperm.
Under the control of a powerful microscope, the embryologist injects a selected healthy sperm into the cytoplasm. It merges with the nucleus of the egg, so that fertilization has begun. After that, the embryologist controls the division of the egg and, if necessary, carries out a genetic examination of the resulting embryos. After assessing the quality of the resulting embryos, they are ready for transfer into the uterine cavity of a biological or surrogate mother.
