The preimplantation screening of embryos has become a real breakthrough in reproductive medicine . How is the procedure going
The study is carried out in an embryological laboratory on the 5th day after the successful fusion of gametes. The embryo at the morula stage is placed in a special solution (buffer medium) in a sterile Petri dish. Under the control of a microscope, the embryologist removes one of the dividing cells for further examination.
The doctor performs:
- Evaluation of the uniformity of division
Basic research, during which a specialist studies the morphology of a cell.
- Counting chromosomes
Having fixed the cell in the required phase of division, the embryologist counts the number of chromosomes (normally 23 pairs) and assesses their quality (normal structure, without shortening or division areas)
- Detection of genetic abnormalities
Genetic testing (hereditary diseases, spontaneous and point mutations, fermentopathies, etc.) is performed using a laboratory analyzer. PCR analysis of embryo DNA and screening using the NGS ( Next-Gen Sequencing ) method is performed .
