The methods of assisted reproductive medicine today have more than 50 protocols with various variations, depending on the type of infertility, clinical characteristics of individual patients, and reproductive history. But there are several issues that remain unchanged in any protocol of assisted reproductive technologies: the use of donor material and testing of embryos before transfer (when it comes to IVF ICSI).

MILITTA IVF Agency cooperates with the best clinics in Kyiv. We have consulted with specialists and have put together a brief patient guide in reproductive medicine for you. In the article below you will find answers to the 3 most common questions when joining an ART program.

Use Of Donor Material

The use of donor sperm or eggs is common throughout the world and is indicated for many conditions:

  • the presence of severe hereditary diseases in one of the partners
  • diagnosed high percentage of mutations in germ cells
  • reduced sperm motility, damage to the cells themselves
  • removed ovaries or testicles (as a result, the inability to use their own germ cells)
  • transferred chemotherapy or radiotherapy, treatment with aggressive drugs
  • work with radiation, chemical mutagens, X-rays
  • reproductive assistance under the surrogacy program.

In assisted reproductive technologies (ART) donor sperm and eggs are equally widely used. MILITTA IVF Agency has a huge list of programs for the donation or cryopreservation of biomaterials. You can clarify the details or sign up for participation in the program through the chat window on the website or directly through a consultant.

NHS Egg Donation

Egg donation needs to be categorized separately. There are recommendations and restrictions for this procedure:

  1. A donor can be a physically healthy woman, aged 18-35
  2. The donor must not be overweight
  3. Participation in the egg donation program no more than 3 times until now.

The resulting eggs are cryopreserved (immersed in liquid nitrogen) or fixed in a nutrient medium and transferred to patients in need. Also, after receiving a sufficient number of eggs, the donor may wish to freeze several of them for their own needs (for example, to participate in the delayed motherhood protocol). You can clarify the details and specifics of the procedure with the coordinator of the MILITTA IVF Agency or your doctor.

In some cases, potential donors decide to participate in a surrogacy program. Depending on the wishes of the biological parents, the egg taken from the donor can also be used in the surrogacy program.

You can clarify the details and find out about the possibility of participating in the programs with a specialist. Remember that egg donation and surrogacy is the easiest way to give someone the desired baby.

NGS Embryo Testing

Genetic screening of embryos is the standard recommended procedure prior to transfer into the uterine cavity. The embryologist evaluates the morphological properties of the dividing embryo (uniformity and rate of division, the number of blastomeres), and also conducts genetic screening.

For this, under the control of a microscope, one blastomere is separated from the total mass of cells. After that, the cell is treated with special solutions that help to fix the process of division and separation of chromosomes at a certain stage. During this period, it is possible to visualize chromosomes as detailed as possible, assess their quantity, quality, and also carry out genetic sequestration to identify dangerous mutations.

Testing is a diagnostically significant procedure that helps to exclude “damaged” embryos that the mother’s body will reject in the early stages. As a result, only mature, healthy embryos are transferred, and the IVF protocol has a higher success rate.
