Embryo transfer after cryopreservation: myths and truth
Before the procedure of transportation and transfer of cryopreserved biomaterial , patients have many questions. Here we have collected answers to the most frequent ones.
- What substance is used to preserve the material?
A liquid nitrogen.
- Does cryopreservation harm the embryo?
No, the quality of the embryos does not suffer. Before immersion in liquid nitrogen, the embryologist processes the biomaterial with a cryoprotectant , due to which they maintain their physiological balance.
- How to transport a frozen embryo (for example, from another clinic)?
For transportation, it is recommended to use a Dewar container (prevents the evaporation of liquid nitrogen during long-term transportation) or a thermos with a volume of 1-1.5 liters.
- Does prolonged freezing negatively affect the quality of the embryo?
No, MILITTA collaborates with clinics that work according to the most modern embryo protocols (US clinical guidelines), ensuring the exceptional physiological preservation of the embryo. In addition, in clinical practice, cases of successful thawing and transfer of an embryo preserved for more than 28 years have been described.
- Do I need to additionally examine the embryos after thawing?
All the necessary pre-implantation diagnostics ( pgd- screening, microscopy, etc.) is carried out both before cryopreservation , on the 5th day after fertilization, and after the defrosting procedure, depending on the recommendations of a specialist.

The prices for the transportation and transfer procedure differ depending on:

- the need for accompanying procedures ( pre-implantation diagnostics, etc.)
Also, the procedure for transporting embryos may be already included in the cost of the program. MILITTA agency offers its patients beneficial comprehensive IVF and surrogacy programs, which you can familiarize yourself with in the relevant sections.
